About Us

Welcome to the website and thank you for being here. Dare to Dream Counselling & Psychotherapy provides confidential, strength based and solution focused counselling to address stress, depression, anxiety and other challenges that get in the way of valued living.

Together, we will explore your unique narrative, your lived experience, your resilience and emotional fitness to embrace life’s key challenges. Our emphasis is always on you as a valued, unique individual, with your own unique strengths, attributes and abilities.

Our aim is to help you explore where you want to go, and provide you with the tools and approaches you need to get there, and help you survive, thrive and prosper in the process. To accept the present as it is, envisage how it can be, and enjoy the ongoing journey, the experience and the moment as it unfolds.

We draw on evidence based approaches such as  Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness based modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

Depending on your own unique needs and requirements, we may also explore aspects of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) (i.e. attachment styles), Hypnotherapy (i.e. safe relaxation techniques) and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) (e.g. moving from present state to desired state).

So who am I, and why should you listen to me?

I am Neil Paddock, that happy guy on the rock. I am passionate about successful living in challenging circumstances.

My professional background was originally in accounting and systems, although in recent years my interest in systems led me to study human psychology, behaviour and interpersonal relationships and interactions. My quest has essentially been to understand how to get the most out of life.  It has taken some interesting and unexpected turns.

My curiosity was originally sparked with a book by Napoleon Hill “Think and Grow Rich“, and over the course of the 35 years since I first read it, some of my beliefs and values have changed radically to accommodate what constitutes both successful and mindful living. Being flexible and adapting; discarding old methodologies that no longer work and embracing new ones.

Sharing my discoveries, including some of those unexpected course corrections along the way,  is what this website and Dare To Dream Counselling & Psychotherapy (dareiidream.com) is all about.

Dareiidream.com was established to pursue my passion; to share my interest in psychology, motivation and human behaviour with the wider community. My mission is to Nurture, Encourage, Inspire and Liberate, and facilitate positive change by embracing life’s key challenges.

I help clients overcome addictions, have better relationships and get more of what they want out of life. I help them make safe, lasting changes to live happier, healthier and wealthier lives.

I have been married since 1990 and live with my wife Susan in Perth, Western Australia where we have been since December 2011, when we emigrated from the UK. We have two adult sons and two cats.

THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS – A MYTH?

A common misconception nowadays is we should be happy and successful all the time, otherwise there must be something wrong with us. However, we are all mortal and experiencing losses is inevitable. Buddhism maintains that suffering is normal and Charles Darwin advocated that struggling is necessary for us to grow (i.e. the survival of the fittest).

Acceptance of both the good and bad in life in equal measure can help us find meaning and perspective in suffering, raise our tolerance of stressful situations and develop more resilience to challenges, disappointments and setbacks when they inevitably occur.

That’s where Dare to Dream Counselling & Psychotherapy can help. Please see my resume or LinkedIn profile for additional information.
