A Message from Neil Paddock, of Dare to Dream Counselling and Psychotherapy

Why Dare to Dream Counselling & Psychotherapy?

Because sometimes:

“Life is Difficult.” – M. Scott Peck

Life can throw obstacles in our path at times when we least expect it, frustrating our dreams, work, goals and our relationships. During those times where we can feel overwhelmed, talking through our challenges with a dedicated, trained professional can help us feel listened to, understood and help us gain a different perspective on our difficulties.

What will counselling do for me, and how is it helpful?

Counselling seeks to provide a calming, non-judgmental and safe space. Together, we will focus on the strengths, skills and knowledge you already possess. Counselling can help you reclaim your lost energy and confidence, to accept those things you cannot change, and refocus on taking effective action where it matters most.

Can counselling solve all my problems?

Whether you are experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, sadness, anger or feeling stuck, counselling can help you get back on top of things. Talking things through with someone who is available to listen, provide support and to validate you and your efforts, when things get too overwhelming.

Is recovery possible?

Recovery becomes possible, simply from feeling heard and supported, expressing yourself honestly and reflecting on healing conversations can help us begin to see both ourselves and our problems differently.

The Mind-Body Connection.

We can explore how feelings might have been bottled up, and how they can best be expressed, both verbally and physically. We can explore and experience ways of calming both the body and the mind.

“The person is not the problem. The problem is the problem.” – Michael White

You are the expert. You are in charge.

With our person-centred, trauma informed counselling, you are acknowledged as the expert on your own life, whilst the counsellor remains a supportive guide, a collaborator and facilitator. You call the shots, because you are the expert on your life and your experiences. You decide on what works best for you.

Solution focus, not problem focus.

Together, we can focus on finding new creative and practical solutions you can implement at a pace that works with your timeframes. Counselling is not about just rehashing old problems and reopening old wounds through the repeated retelling of our stories. It is about having conversations with a purpose.

  1. Stressed? We can help you manage your stress levels.
  2. Depressed? Talk to us about your feelings and low energy levels. We can help.
  3. Anxious? Anxious feelings can make life more difficult than it needs to be.
  4. Sad? We can help you come to terms with disappointments and losses.
  5. Angry? Let off steam, hold things more lightly and let go of them gracefully.
  6. Stuck in a rut at work or at home, in an unhealthy relationship, or overwhelmed with it all? Talk through your issues safely and confidentially with an experienced, qualified, registered professional.

Website Revisions (July 2024): Transitioning from PACFA (WA) to NCPS (UK)

Please note I am currently updating this website to incorporate revisions following my relocation to the UK from Western Australia (WA) where I was formerly registered with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). I am now formally accredited in the UK to practice counselling with The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). The current paperwork (i.e. the Informed Consent PDF form) may point to broken links and I will post amendments and clarifications here for your convenience. Your patience is appreciated whilst I complete these changes and make the necessary updates. Thank you.
